What Is The $10K Bootcamp Program...

$10K Bootcamp is designed to help web professionals over a ten week span to land their first $10,000 project (or learn to land them more consistently if they already have a couple under their belts).

Why $10K? What’s the significance?

In my years helping web pros build wildly successful businesses, I’ve found that there are a few different realities around that mark. Sure, it’s an arbitrary round number. However, here is what I find web pros doing:

  • Struggling to get out of the $2,000 to $3,000 rut
  • Proposing a $10k project, but then allowing the client to negotiate them down significantly
  • Selling $10k-ish projects, but packing way too much in the scope and end up getting crushed in terms of profitability

Being someone that learned in the trenches how to go from selling the low thousands to solid five figure deals every time, I took it as my responsibility to create a program to solve this problem. I wanted to provide a roadmap for web professionals to get out of this rut and on a path to prosperity.

The Problem Is...

Not A Lack Of Creative Or Technical Skills...

As part of our inital launch of the $10K Bootcamp in Spring 2014, my email series made an offer for a free 30 minute consult with anyone that would take it. I ended up talking to 76 web professionals in a week. I simply asked each person at the start of the call, “what’s your biggest pain, the one that keeps you up at night?” I knew it was going to be crazy intense, but I had no idea how much pain I would uncover.

It turns out that many web pros are struggling to make ends meet with their business. Not because they aren’t smart people. And not because they aren’t hard working. They were struggling with non-web issues:

Strategy

Just about every company I talked to got their clients from referrals. When I asked who they worked with, it was “small business” otherwise known as “anyone that will hire me.” There was no concept of defining an ideal customer, a marketing segment, or a marketing channel besides word of mouth.

Look, I’m all for Word of Mouth. It’s powerful. But you can’t control when the next person is going to refer you. You can’t force someone’s hand. The whole premise of this as a strategy to grow your business is based on hope. “I sure hope I get a referral this month…”

Strategy problems sound like:

“I can’t find customers.”

“I can’t find the right customers.”

“What do I tell customers I do?”

Sales

At a more tactical level, web pros I talked to had issues once they actually started talking to a lead. They lacked a clearly defined process for how they handled new business. I’m not saying that you need to run a boiler room here, but if you are winging it on every opportunity that knocks at your door it shows to the client.

Letting your client lead you through their sales process is probably one of the most dangerous ideas when it comes to selling web solutions. The average client buys very few websites. You sell them every day (or at least you should be).

Sales problems sound like:

“I can’t charge enough to make a living.”

“I’m doing way too much for what I’m getting paid.”

“I spend a ton of time just to find out a lead has $500.”

Projects

The last bucket of issues revolved around the actual work being proposed and delivered. The amount of inconsistency in this industry illustrates why clients have such varied expectations. There wasn't a clear understanding of what a good website project entails.

Most people I talked to focused entirely on design and development related tasks. They completely forgot about content, planning, strategy, and building something that really delivered value to the client (and not just their requested scope of work). When I say value, I mean: “how does this site deliver more business/leads/donations/revenue?”

Project problems sound like:

“I don’t know how to hire someone to help.”

“How do I handle content?”

“I’m getting crushed by scope creep.”

More Than Just Videos...

$10K Bootcamp Offers Live Interaction ...

I've been teaching and publishing video courses online for a long time. I love doing this because I can broadcast well produced knowledge to hundreds or thousands of people with insane efficiency. The downside is the level of interaction. I can’t ask questions and probe in real time.

I decided that in order to help web professionals solve the above problems, I needed a high dose of interaction. Not only that, but I needed the dynamics of a group to bring new angles and problems to the table each and every week.

Group meeting will become the highlight of your week

Prepare to be challenged each week for 90 minutes by your $10K Mentor and up to nine other web professionals over Adobe Connect with video and audio.

Meetings are every Tuesday, at the same time each week, for 10 weeks. You have the option of picking a 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, or 5pm (Mountain Time) time slot to meet with your group each week.

To achieve success, you must attend all 10 group meetings, and be on time each week. In the meeting, your $10K Mentor will demand you be present and engaged for 90 minutes. Your $10K Mentor plays an important role in your success. This friendly, smart, and experienced web professional leads the group and works with you on your accountability.

Each week I will introduce a new topic from the $10K Blueprint. Topics rotate weekly from one of the three content themes: Strategy, Sales and Projects.

Topics are presented through a series of video presentations. Here I explain key concepts, detail the steps, and share examples that prepare you for group meeting.

At the end of the presentation, I will ask you to complete an exercise found in the $10K Blueprint. This assignment comes with the tools and formulas you need to take action.

No Longer Little League

"I’m Barbara Carneiro, from Word Revolution. I run a team of 10 spread out all over the world, but our head office is now in a two-story building in Annapolis, Maryland.

That’s a long way from when I started the company by myself on Elance back in 2005, grabbing whatever gigs I could find. It was nothing really specialized — just any web project I could get.

After that I started living off of the referrals. The six months’ worth of clients that I got were the ones then referring me to everybody else they knew.

But since the 10K Bootcamp everything’s different. We’ve been able to increase our prices in a way I never would have believed.

What we’ve seen so far is a referral comes in and the first communication that we have with them is, “Hey, we’re doing things differently now. Our prices start at $4,000.”
